Cllr Slawek Szczepanski
Lavender Fields
Elected in 2022, Slawek became the first ever Polish mayor of Merton, and has worked as a community champion across Merton for many years.
Slawek leads the Polish Family Association providing collaborative work with health services, mental health services, children’s centres, schools and businesses, with hundreds of families in Merton benefiting. His work has been vital in supporting Ukrainian refugees who have settled in the borough

Cllr Edith Macualey MBE
Lavender Fields
Edith was elected as a Councillor for Lavender Fields in 1998 and was the first-ever black woman to be the Mayor of Merton.
Edith is committed to equality and social justice and is a Magistrate in South West London, receiving an MBE the Queen in March in 2012 for Services to the Community.

Cllr Billy Christie
Lavender Fields
Billy was elected to Lavender Fields in 2018.
Billy has led the Council’s cost-of living support, helping to cut the Council tax bills of 10,000 residents across the borough. Billy has delivered free cost-of-living events for residents and secured council and private investment across Merton’s towns and high streets.

Dame Siobhain McDonagh MP
Mitcham and Morden MP
Siobhain has lived in the constituency of Mitcham and Morden her whole life and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Mitcham and Morden in 1997.
Siobhain is renowned as one of the country’s hardest-working MPs, and regularly leads the list of MPs who have written the most letters, taking up thousands of new cases on behalf of constituents every year. She has led a variety of campaigns, including the opening of a new train station at Mitcham Eastfields, saving St Helier Hospital, introducing new community ‘Safer Neighbourhood’ police teams, and tackling graffiti, abandoned cars, vandalism and other anti-social behaviour.
