Labour brings back weekly street cleaning in Merton
Weekly street cleaning returns to Merton in April.
We know that street cleaning has not been to the standard residents deserve for some time. So to improve standards, we’ve decided to scrap the previous street cleaning contract and bring back the weekly street cleaning.
We promised that we would improve our streets and we’re determined to keep that promise. From April 2025, residents in Merton can expect:
Weekly cleaning in your street
More cleaning in town centres
A new graffiti removal service
A new rapid response team to deal with complaints
Regular ‘pop up tips’ to get rid of bulky household items near where you live
More frequent waste collections on big estates
We want these improvements to show you just how determined we are to keep our area clean, and to show just what a great place Merton is to live.
But we know that the Council can’t do this on it’s own. It takes a community to keep our neighbourhood clean.
If you see rubbish being dumped, please report it via Fix My Street at fixmystreet.merton.gov.uk and if you know who has done it, let us know using the contact details at the top of the letter. If we can catch them, they could be prosecuted and get a fine up to £400. Together, we can keep our streets clean.
Your Labour run Council will continue working hard to run good services that you can rely on, and we will keep listening to what residents tell us to make sure we are getting it right and dealing with any problems that arise. If you have anything that you would like to raise with us, please do get in touch.
