Important update on the Save Raynes Park Post Office Campaign
The Post Office were considering plans to close Raynes Park Post Office, along with many others across the country.
The Leader of the Council, Councillor Ross Garrod, presented a petition from residents opposing the closure to the Post Office in March this year. The Post Office have written to his office today to inform him that instead of closing the branch, it will be franchised.
Whilst we would of course have preferred that the current arrangement remain in place, this news means the services will continue, either in the same place or somewhere nearby, so we’ll still have access to important facilities such as banking, cash, and government services.
This is a big win for everyone in the community. Post offices are really important, especially for people who don’t use online banking, older people, and those with disabilities. They’re a key part of our community, and I’m glad to see the Post Office take action to keep them around.
But the job isn’t done yet. The work continues to make sure that the new branches provide the same good service, are accessible, and are able to keep playing the vital role so many in our community rely on them for.
The Leader of Merton Council has vowed to continue working with the Post Office to make sure these changes are for the good of our community.
